COGHILL FINDS GOD IN PRISON, DEVELOPS CONCERN FOR THE HUNGRY

In a rambling, disconnected 10 page letter to your author, Coghill declares his service to God, ("I have decided to serve God and his wants and needs and not mine") and revealing that he has now read the Bible "going on three times".  In the letter he lays out his plans for the future, including:

     - Vowing to set up a web site to document his future good deeds, including a 2000 mile bike ride to raise money…

Tommy the Charitable Author!

Well, our boy is now planning on publishing a book!  I have been contacted by a publisher he solicited, who did a little research on Junior, and thought I might be interested in knowing that he is attempting to publish a book.   He has apparently written a book for would-be inventors, giving them the benefit of his real life experience.  In his opening letter to publishers, he states:

If you review my Biography you will see that… Continue

A New Home for Tommy

Finally.... Our boy has landed! A nice sunny cubicle at FCI Coleman Low, located in Coleman, Florida. Isn't it nice that he is close enough for Mommy and Daddy to come visit their poor little misunderstood thief?

In the middle of the state, Coleman is south of Gainesville and north of Tampa, St. Pete... right in the middle of nowhere.. just like Junior. Close enough for some of his buddies from the St. Augustine, Villano Beach area to stop in for a visit. CTC wonders if Junior will be… Continue

Documents From Sentencing and News article Posted

The Sentencing and Judgment Documents are now available in the photo section. By now our boy is securely ensconced in the Federal Prison nearest Virginia Beach... (so that mommy and daddy can visit their little thief) and I suppose he is going through some some serious mental and physical hell... detox is not fun (well, for me it is... I enjoy thinking that he is suffering). Interesting that the Judge ordered alcohol treatment, drug treatment, and mental health treatment. We know he needs… Continue

Coghill JAILED!!

LED WHIMPERING FROM THE COURTROOM!

Junior was sentenced to another 30 months in

Federal Prison yesterday afternoon, and was taken directly from the courtroom to jail. Judge Moon expressed his disgust with Coghill when he said "I give no credence to anything you have to say, Mr. Coghill. I see con men in here all the time, and they just keep conning and conning." (I'm paraphrasing here, will have the exact quote when I get the transcript of the hearing)

The hearing… Continue

Virginian-Pilot Newspaper Runs Coghill Story

Today's issue of the Virginian-Pilot has published and posted online the following story about our boy:

Donald Melcher says he lost nearly everything after loaning Thomas E. Coghill Jr. money for his homebuilding business. The Charlottesville businessman claims he was out more than $527,000 after helping Coghill build houses in the Charlottesville area during the 1990s.

To get financing from Melcher and others, Coghill claimed houses had been completed or were being built… Continue

Motion DENIED!

In a tersely worded response to the Motion for Continuance of Hearing requested on December 30th by Coghill attorney John Edwards, Judge Moon denied the motion.

Sentencing of Junior is scheduled for 2 PM on Friday in Lynchburg. What fun!

Note to Tommy.... pack your toothbrush, your going back! And when you are free again, you can expect more of the same. CTC is determined to cause you as much pain as you have caused us. Restitution would be nice, but this is much more fun.… Continue

Copy of Motion Posted

The Motion For continuance of Sentencing Hearing has been posted under photos. Of particular interest is point 3. which states:

A continuance is needed so that the defendant can receive the bargained for

benefits of his plea agreement, namely, to have an opportunity to provide substantial assistance.

Furthermore, the FBI agent involved has expressed a keen interest at obtaining further

information and assistance from the defendant regarding an on going investigation.… Continue

Continuance of Sentencing Hearing Requested

Coghill was scheduled to be sentenced on January 8th, but his attorney has filed a motion for continuance, asking that the sentencing be delayed for 30 days.

In his motion, attorney John Edwards cites the reasons for requesting the continuance, including paragraph 3. "A continuance is needed so that the defendant can receive the bargained for

benefits of his plea agreement, namely, to have an opportunity to provide substantial assistance.

Furthermore, the FBI agent involved… Continue

Sentencing Postponed

Coghill was scheduled to be sentenced for Obstruction of Justice on November 23rd., but the sentencing has been postponed until January 8th. CTC does not know the reason for the delay, but we will be writing to Judge Moon prior to sentencing, and may have a chance to speak as a victim at the hearing. Junior gets to spend the Holidays with Mommy and Daddy, but the good news is that he also gets to think about how long he will get and where he will be jailed... and CTC hopes that thinking about… Continue

Coghill Pleads Guilty to Obstruction

I went to the hearing yesterday thinking there would be some interesting legal wrangling, the trial might be postponed a few weeks, but eventually there would be a trial. Justice came swiftly in the form of a plea agreement, reached just prior to the hearing. Junior plead guilty to one count of obstruction, and the perjury charge was dropped. Sentencing is scheduled for November 23rd. I do not know what the "Guidelines" referred to in court call for in the way of prison time, but I suspect that… Continue

Motion to Compel by Coghill

Coghill's attorney has filed a Motion to Compel, asking the Court to direct the Government to turn over documents, records, names and addresses etc. relating to the case. He was arraigned on April 13th, folks. You would think that on April 14th, there would have been a request from the defense for all of these records and documents. Seems pretty basic to me.... show us your stuff, so we can prepare. It is less than a week until the trial, and they are just now asking for discovery.… Continue

Motion Denied! Trial to begin on the 13th.

This morning Judge Norman Moon denied Coghill's motion for a continuance. In a tersely worded Order, the Judge pointed out that Coghill had plenty of time to hire an attorney, and the fact that he did not is no reason to delay the trial. (Whoopie!!) (See photos of the Judge's Order)

In my recent letter to Judge Moon I made the same point, and asked the Judge if he was going to continue to let Coghill play him. I guess not! In reading the Order (which I will post shortly) it seems… Continue

U.S. Response to Coghill's Motion (See 4 new photo documents)

In documents filed by the Government today, Assistant US Attorney Pat Hogeboom supported a short continuance for our boy's trial, but cited 3 areas of concern:

1) A potential conflict of interest for John Edwards, who previously represented Coghill Sr., a government witness. Hogeboom writes "Since Mr. Edwards previously represented Coghill Sr. during the investigative stage of this matter, he would undoubtedly have obtained information that might prove critical in impeaching Coghill… Continue

Liar and Thief Still Seeking Continuance

Junior's new attorney, John Edwards, has filed ANOTHER motion to continue, according to the recent postings on PACER. Our boy is really wriggling around trying to get this trial postponed over the objection of Assistant US Attorney Pat Hogeboom. Hogeboom knows that junior is playing games with the system just to delay his next appearance before Judge Moon and subsequent incarceration. We will see if judge Moon allows this continuance... and we expect he will, but we are encouraged by Hogeboom's… Continue

New Councel Requests Continuance

Well, what a surprise! Attorney John Edwards has filed a request with the Court asking for a continuance so that he can get up to speed. We have known all along that junior would drag this out until he hired a real attorney to represent him at trial, and thus the need for a continuance and a chance to delay the inevitable, another spin in the pen. It remains to be seen how Judge Moon will rule, but we suspect a new court date is probable. Too bad. We were hoping junior would be locked up again… Continue

Co-councel Added for Upcoming Trial

As expected, junior has hired an attorney to work with his Public Defender (Notice of Appearance posted on PACER today) begging the question... why did he need, or get, a public defender in the first place. CTC believes the Public Defender was a set-up to create a last minute dodge. We will see if the new attorney, one John E. Edwards of Roanoke, is used as a delaying tactic, and if Judge Moon bites.

It makes one wonder if Attorney Edwards knows what he is in for. (note to Edwards:… Continue

Letter Sent to Judge Moon to Rescind Probation

I have added a document to the photo section, my recent letter to Judge Moon detailing Coghill's probation violations. The violations that we are aware of are an arrest for Public Intoxication and an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated, both in the first half of this year. The Conditions of Release clearly state that Coghill is not to violate any federal, state or local law, and that he is to refrain from the use of any alcohol. I would guess that this is the tip of the iceberg, and that… Continue

Trial Postponed

As we expected, Junior will do the rope-a-dope for another two months with Judge Moon. His trial for Perjury and Obstruction of Justice has been continued until August 13th.

Personal to Tommy... Pack your toothbrush, your going back!
