A neck lift in Walnut Creek is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to remove excess skin and fat in the neck and lower jaw area. Also known as a lower rhytidectomy, a neck lift can provide a better-defined jawline that helps restore balance to facial features. There are different kinds of treatments that fall under the neck lift procedure. Although this procedure can make the neck appear younger, it cannot stop the aging process.

What Are the Different Types of Neck Lift Procedures?

A variety of treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, can be used to perform a neck lift, including:

Liposuction – Also called lipocontouring or lipoplasty, liposuction is a procedure that refines the jawline. It is ideal if you have a prominent double chin. It works by dislodging stubborn fat cells from the surrounding tissues using a cannula and then removing them from the target areas through the cannula via medical suction.

Botox – Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for patients, since it is injection-based instead of surgical. This treatment works best if you’re looking to get rid of harsh vertical platysmal neck bands. Botox injections are FDA-approved.
Kybella injections – Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable product that many people prefer to surgical procedures. It is made of synthetic deoxycholic acid, which efficiently eliminates fat cells in the submental region to eliminate the appearance of a double chin.
Traditional or mini neck lift – A full neck lift can accomplish a variety of changes and is best for harsh or moderate signs of aging. A mini neck lift, on the other hand, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses smaller incisions and only requires minimal downtime. It is best for less-extensive changes and does not typically involve removal of excess skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

If you think your neck area makes you look older and you’re interested in a change, a neck lift may be just what you’re looking for. As long as you are a non-smoker, generally healthy, and don’t have any medical conditions that may impair healing, you’d be an ideal candidate for a neck lift.

Before Your Neck Lift

During your personalized consultation, Dr. Christian Conderman will examine your neck and the surrounding area to determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs. He will also discuss what your expectations are and will ask you about your medical history, as well as any previous surgeries you may have had.

It is important to tell Dr. Conderman about any medications you are taking. If you are taking any NSAIDs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, it is important to stop taking these medications before your surgery, as they can increase the risk of bleeding during or after your procedure.

If you have any questions about the procedure(s) you will be getting, be sure to ask Dr. Conderman during your consultation.

The Procedure
If you are getting injections for a non-surgical neck lift treatment like Botox or Kybella, your procedure should be fairly simple. Dr. Conderman will mark the targeted areas where you will receive your injections. Then, using a very fine microneedle, he will inject the appropriate amount of product into the targeted areas. These treatments typically take about thirty minutes.

If you are getting liposuction, after a general or local anesthesia is administered, a small incision will be made under your chin and excess fat will be removed. This process typically takes about an hour to complete.

If you are getting a traditional or mini-neck lift, you will be administered either a general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Then, small incisions will be made either under your chin and/or behind your ears. The tissues and/or muscles will then be repositioned, and the incisions will be closed with sutures.

Recovery and Aftercare

Depending on the type of procedures you get, recovery and aftercare will vary. If you underwent a neck lift without surgery using injectables like Botox or Kybella, there is zero recovery time and side effects are minimal. You may experience some redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these minor side effects are normal and will go away within a few days.

If you had liposuction or a traditional or mini-neck lift, a bandage will likely be placed over your incisions. You may be prescribed medication to help you deal with any discomfort or pain during your recovery. You may also experience some bruising and/or swelling after your procedure.

You should keep your head elevated above your heart after your neck plastic surgery procedure. It is also important not to twist your head or neck after your surgery.

If you received injections or a minimally invasive treatment, you will typically start to see results within a week or so.

If you had liposuction or a surgical procedure, it may take several weeks to start seeing results from your neck lift, and full results may not be visible until a few months after your procedure.

What Is the Cost of a Neck Lift?

The cost of a neck lift depends on a few variables: the type of treatment you receive, the amount of product used, the amount of tissue removed, the length of the procedure, and other various factors. If you have any questions about the price of your neck lift, be sure to ask Dr. Conderman during your consultation.
